Moldova

The former Soviet republic state, and still with strong ties to Russia, was on our agenda in March, 2013. In terms of architecture I did not find Chisinau particularly interesting. A few fine period buildings but otherwise mostly Soviet style constructions. The Nasterea Comnului Cathedral and the Pushkin museum are the two main attractions here. As always, I paid a visit to the local market. Always bustling with activities and commerce. We did also make the short trip out to the wine-district - Cricova - only some 30 minutes outside the capital. It boast some 120 km tunnels underground for wine storage - impressive. The restaurants were actually better than one could expect.
