Iran
Back in the years 2006 and 2007, I managed a company where we decided to set-up an assembly production facility in Teheran, Iran. This meant a few trips to the capital of Iran. I unfortunately did not have time to see anything of this supposedly beautiful country filled with amazing architectural sites. The few shots are from a mobile phone hence the poor quality. There is a trip penciled in my travel-plans hopefully in the not so distant future. My main takeaway from these trips are the hard-working, dedicated and friendly people.

Turkmenistan
this is the second leg continuing along the "Silk-road" route. Back in 2011, the Caucasus (Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan) was covered. This time it is Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkministans' turn. After Uzbekistan we still had Turkmenistan. A country with only some 6000 visitors per year (less then 20 per day!). Crossing the border overland and then traveling across the Karakum dessert we visited the ancient city of Merv, Ashgabat, the capital, and last but not least the Kunya-Urgench in the north. Here we were lucky to witness an ancient tradition where newlywed women rolled down a hill in order to improve fertility.
